We’ve been using it to publicize our Video Jockeying performances. We invite friends who invite friends and come for &then performances.

The venues have been packed, and what’s best you meet strangers who become your friends and urge you to do the next performance.

Though, i’d agree it helps performers who can give you a taste of it online but the main course is only served live.

Though i believe we at &then – have a solution to some part of the problem…

Sometimes looking at a piece of design or art, I wonder how is that bloody working? The workings of a mechanical mind find the solution, sometimes i assume and that’s the mother of what we know. This particular piece is years old now, but only now have i found out the simple answer to ‘how’? Hats off to the studio.

Explanation:

The directors of the National Malus (crab-apple) Collection invited Heatherwick Studio to develop the design of a structure called the Sitooterie for their site in Essex. Derived from the Scottish, a ’sitooterie’ is a small building in which to literally “sit oot”.

The structure is a cube punctured by over 5000 long thin windows that project from all its surfaces and lift it off the ground. The cube, which measures 2.4 x 2.4 metres, is precision-machined from 15mm anodised aluminium and the windows are 18mm square-section aluminium tubes glazed with transparent orange acrylic.

As the long thin windows all point at the exact centre of the cube, it only takes a single light source, located at this central point, to send light through every tube, causing the windows to glow orange. A small number of them also project into the cube to form seating.

It’s happened outside the sub-continent, it has all come together on its own, and you don’t even need to keep ‘it’ together. You are holding the ‘it’ if you are holding an iPhone. It’s all there and more is in coming.

TV/ radio/ postal system/ chat/ is turning into binaries – 01 10. They are all coming to you and not to your visitors/ drawing rooms – in to your hands.

The next stage of communicators / designers wake up, decode the present. Radio is audio / TV is visual/ Letters are text not mediums anymore. They are just formats and the medium for the mouse friendly people will be something people will carry along.

Physically radio/ TV/ newspapers/ letters will morph into one device – what the world will love as much as the TV is yet to be seen. The hunt is on.

One thing is for sure – 9 p.m.family dinners will end. Couples will stop fighting over the remote, she can weep – he will shout for his favourite team sitting in the park.

Welcome to new media – everything will sink into this happy plague. Happiness is not rushing to make it for your favourite soap, happiness is getting entertained when, where you whim.
